Why Washington Red Raspberries?

In the cool, marine climate of the Pacific Northwest, Washington State is home to acres upon acres of picturesque raspberry fields. With stunning views of the mountains, growers tend year-round to their farms to grow a different kind of raspberry.

Crafted exclusively for freezing and grown in the rich, fertile soil of Washington by generations of passionate American farmers, these berries have a legacy of excellence.

Washington produces 90% of the American-grown frozen red raspberry crop.

Because these raspberries are frozen within hours of being picked, our growers can wait until those raspberries are perfectly ripe and at peak deliciousness before harvesting–and this locks in the fruit’s integrity, flavor and nutritional value so you can enjoy picked-at-the-peak-of-ripeness raspberries year-round.

A Year in the Life: Growing and harvesting raspberries is a year-round endeavor.

In the fall of each year after harvest, growers prepare the raspberry canes for the new season. Winter brings the snow and the raspberry plants lay dormant, saving their energy for the season ahead. The ground begins to thaw in the spring and brings new life to the plant. By summer, they’re ready for another sweet harvest.

About the Washington Red Raspberry Commission

The Washington Red Raspberry Commission (WRRC) was formed in 1976 to support and promote the raspberry industry. The WRRC operates programs that facilitate cultural and harvesting improvements, in addition to regulating unfair trade practices within the industry. It also establishes promotion plans and conducts programs for advertising, sales, promotion and other programs for maintaining present markets as well as creating new or larger markets for raspberries, and it provides for research in the production and processing of raspberries.

There are about 20 different suppliers of red raspberry products that comprise the WRRC. Each company is committed to growing, harvesting and processing the highest quality berries in the world, and meeting the most stringent quality standards on the planet. These growers and processors are primarily located in the western part of Washington, as well as southern Canada and northern Oregon.

From Our Family to Yours…See Our Harvest

Washington red raspberries are steeped in family tradition and community, with many of our berries coming from multi-generational farms. Hear about how these traditions are shaping the industry and driving quality products that can be enjoyed year-round!
