When we think of eating fruit, we usually think sweet—fruit on yogurt or granola, fruit in a smoothie or fruit for dessert. It’s true that fruit is a wonderful way to satisfy your sweet tooth and at the same time get a healthy dose of fiber, vitamins and minerals. But, we also love sneaking fruit—especially red raspberries—into savory dishes. It’s another way to reach the 1 ½ – 2 cups of fruit recommended each day. Plus, that sweet-tart savory combination is so satisfying!
Here are some ideas on how to use red raspberries in your savory dishes:
- Add frozen and thawed red raspberries to your slaw recipes for a hearty dose of fiber and a sweet and savory punch. The raspberries are a perfect addition to slaw, because they won’t wilt hearty greens like cabbage, collards and kale. Try our Red Raspberry Red Cabbage Slaw.
- For green salads, make your own raspberry dressing. Simply stir frozen and thawed red raspberries into your favorite balsamic vinaigrette, or try our raspberry vinaigrette
- Grain salads are a perfect vehicle for fruit, because they soak up all that fruit flavor and just keep getting better and better! Add frozen and thawed red raspberries to your favorite quinoa, farro or wild rice salad, or try our Gingered Farro and Wild Rice Salad.
